Luiz Fernando Martha is a Full Professor of Civil Engineering at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Brazil, and a member of the Tecgraf Institute of Technical-Scientific Software Development at PUC-Rio (Tecgraf/PUC-Rio). He earned his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering in 1989 from Cornell University, where he worked in the Cornell Fracture Group and the Cornell Program of Computer Graphics. From 2012 to 2022, he served as Vice-Dean for Undergraduate Programs at the Center of Science and Technology of PUC-Rio (CTC/PUC-Rio). From November 2022 to May 2026, he served as Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Services at PUC-Rio. Since June 2026, he has been Special Advisor to the Rector of PUC-Rio for the Student Journey. His research interests include Structural Analysis, Computational Mechanics, Educational Software, Mesh Generation, Geometric Modeling, and Computer Graphics. He is the creator of Ftool.
